A long distance move is usually defined as a move in excess of 300 miles. The charges for this type of move are calculated by a number of factors. These factors include the shipment weight; where the shipment is moving from and to; and the distance that the shipment will be travelling. Additional services that may be required such as short/long term storage; packing/unpacking or third party servicing will all have an effect on the overall cost of the move.
It is recommended that at least two estimates be submitted for your move and that these estimates be performed by representatives from a major van line carrier such as Mayflower Van Lines. Unless your move is a company-paid relocation, payment will be required upon delivery in the form of cash, certified cheque or by major credit card (certain restrictions may apply). You will be advised in advance of the final charges allowing time to make the necessary financial arrangements for payment prior to delivery.
* Moves travelling within Canada are payable in Canadian Funds whereas moves travelling from or to the United States are payable in American Funds.
In moving to the United States, proper documentation for customs clearance is essential for a problem free transfer. The Moving Consultant will require photocopies of specific documents such as passports; work visas; birth certificates; social security cards or social insurance cards. Please keep in mind that if you do not have the required documentation, your goods will not be allowed to cross the border or the goods could be placed in bond… a very expensive prospect!
